You guys at Smurfpunx really do everything possible to put up great shows. You might also recall that Jaak returned the money we gave him [ Brob: The music of that period I find very patchy too. The audience reacted rather lame though. Good friends too and I gladly set up their tour through Germany later on. After a while it got really boring.
But for one or another reason they could not handle it any more and Mokka, Brob and myself took over we also made it a benefit for the said Foundation. More than music, right!? A true document of our scene!!! In my specific case, we have to go back to the first half of the eighties. They played their Smurfpunx gig with the instruments and over the backline of a Belgian band… I remember they had to re-arrange the strings of a guitar because one of them was left-handed. Oh well, anyone gets it wrong from time to time… In-between bands there were all kinds of stalls with info to visit.

Kiefernstrasse was almost a no-police zone. The next day, they had another gig in Limburg.

We met a guy called Dirk Stynen, he organized an few gigs for us in several places in Belgium…. Piet — Manu — Koen. Boss Tunage Records are distributing it in the UK. I think our album Claustrophobia only proved that too well and just showed what we could do.
I got up from behind my drum-kit and went for a drink. A band from what was then still West-Berlin… Wow, it felt like the end of the world back then!

All in all a great day, with lots of little info-stalls, veggie food…. Netwerk, Aalst, aalt aug 88 F. Great band but it does tend to get a bit humdrum after a while. These opened a new world for me: I bought their album Three Gallows from them that day.
We arrived in Aalst at 8: What especially catched me was the direct contact and the absence of any hierarchy or distance. Nicky Larson Trailer 1 – French ver. I remember this show! I remember it was a great vibe, more skaters than at any other gig…. For all I know, all those guys are still stood in that hall waiting for us to come on… Slug, D. He told us the only reason he did our tour was for the fame of booking American bands…what a joke.
The tour was organised by the Konkurrent. The consequence was that the arm was split at the bridge. A lot better than in the UK. Watch the top of the best movies available now. Moved not so long ago and sometimes I am hopelessly looking for stuff. We never let him forget that and made him teach us Traditional German cute songs that he changed the lyrics to make a joke on us but we sang the song with him and it made him so mad when we would sing it on stage and dedicate the song to him.
I used to be an active member of Smurfpunx, though not one of its founding members. AnguishDepravedDorpsoudste de JongFang! I could get along with these guys very well! I think Mokka arranged that.
Antwerp multi-cultural open-minded city my ass! That was our [ Ewings ] second last gig ever before splitting emurfen. He is called for a high-risk mission: Ghert was the driver and booked the second tour for us…. We got the very dedicated people. O tempora… That show was also the only one where I met a self-proclaimed Muslim metal-head.
It was a little sad for us though since it was the last show of our European tour and we were having such a good time, we did not want to leave… One thing: Smurrfen got it live on tape, with Dick ranting that the police is outside etc.
First of all the fact that the show started in the afternoon. As far as I remember, there were about people, which was a success.
